Some years before taking Wild Weed Kitchen into the public realm, Can't be bothered to mow the lawn? Why not eat it instead was prompted by the British tradition of Spring Bank Holiday: everyone was mowing the lawn. The front lawn at a little piece of land had not been cut since the previous autumn; the grass was several inches high but the lawn had been purposefully left to grow on account of the edible plants that had become abundant throughout the grass after a couple of years of limited mowing and no weeding, allowing the area to return to being unimproved pasture. This particular Bank Holiday we decided to create a performative work to be disseminated as a photo-strip story and a meal to be shared with an audience.
The lawn was densely populated with dandelions, hogweed, ramsons, cow parsley and plantago, all of which were used to create a meal with the addition of some kitchen staples such as onions, lentils and flour and some herbs from the area of land at the back of the house, dried from last year.
